Questions arise from year to year regarding the diploma awarded by Vienna Christian School. Since university and college acceptance requirements for various countries may differ significantly, we would like to describe as best as we can the various opportunities that the VCS diploma can afford our students. We strongly suggest that parents begin early in the education process to establish plans for their child’s post high school education and develop a clear understanding of the entrance requirements. Keep in mind that SAT, ACT, and TOEFL testing, as well as personal references may also be required for entrance.
The VCS diploma is accepted without question at North American universities and colleges as well as international universities on various continents.
The EU has recently determined that students who graduate from an American high school and have taken a minimum of three Advanced Placement (AP) courses with scores of three or higher may be given equivalent status to those students who have completed an International Baccalaureate (IB) program. (Admittance into the AP courses is limited to students with high grades and teacher recommendations.) In addition, the student must be fluent in the language of the university to which he/she is applying. (This information can be found at www.ecis.org.)
Currently, VCS does not offer the Austrian Matura. We are in the process of meeting the requirements to allow for that certification.
To insure the proper high school placement, parents and students should check with the Admissions Director of the post-high school program that their child is interested in attending to determine exactly what type of course work, testing, and recommendations will be required.
